Teak Deck Caulking

Teak deck caulking seals the seams between deck planks to keep the deck watertight. It applies to new decks and to recaulking existing seams once the old caulking has been removed and the seam prepared.

Typical use cases

  • —Caulking seams on new teak decks
  • —Recaulking existing teak decks
  • —Repairing individual seams

Important selection factors

  • —Natural teak versus synthetic decking
  • —Seam preparation
  • —Required seam color

Natural teak or synthetic decking?

Natural teak and synthetic decking need separate product checks. Iris supplies MSR DC Advanced for natural teak seams in Black. For synthetic teak systems, STR220A may be relevant where the decking system and Bostik guidance support it. Tell us the decking brand and whether you are caulking a seam or sealing a perimeter so we can review the fit.

MSR DC Advanced is not positioned for synthetic decking, and STR220A is not a fit for every synthetic deck — the decking brand, system, seam and preparation are reviewed before a recommendation.

Common substrates & materials

  • —Natural teak deck planks
  • —Synthetic decking — brand-specific review required

Common problems & failure considerations

  • —Poorly prepared seams or remaining old caulking
  • —Synthetic decking that requires a specific system
  • —Colors not currently stocked

Surface preparation considerations

Seams must be properly prepared before caulking. Seam preparation questions are reviewed by Iris before recommending a product.
